ICI now has full metallurgical inspection capabilities. With the addition of our new metrology lab, we are able to perform complete microstructure evaluations using metallographic techniques such as sectioning, mounting, polishing, chemical etching, and optical microscopy.

Hardness is measured using standard and superficial hardness testers. For case hardnened parts, the case is measured separately for the case and the core on a metallographic section using a microhardness tester. Plating thickness is measured similarly with a metallographic section using the microhardness tester. The data is then input into a computer program, so a formal Metallurgical Report can be generated for the customer as required.
